Vanuatu Cyclone Appeal

THROUGH ANGLICAN OVERSEAS AID

Communities such as this one on coastal areas in the northern islands of Vanuatu are simple and highly vulnerable to disasters. The impact of the cyclone will have been devastating.

The Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu is reeling from the devastation wrought by Cyclone Pam over the weekend.

The projects that we support through our partner, the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM), are based in the northern islands, the most remote part of the country.
Communities in these islands, like the one pictured, are mostly in coastal areas and buildings are simple and fragile. The impact of the cyclone will have been huge, but given the scale of the damage communications are difficult and we are still trying to find out the details.

This part of Vanuatu is a mostly Anglican area. We will be supporting ACOM once they have made their assessments and know what needs to be done.
Please help us to support ACOM and people in this remote and hard-hit part of Vanuatu.
We will share more information as it becomes available, but please be aware that this will be a long and difficult response given the remoteness of the islands and the scale of the destruction.
The Vanuatu lands minister, Ralph Regenvanu, said the government regarded the entire population of about 266,000 people as having been affected by the huge storm, which ripped through the South Pacific
“This is the worst disaster to affect Vanuatu ever, as far as we know. We’re going to need a lot of assistance,” he said.
