Harvest Festival and Community Barbeque 

Sunday 17^th April 10.30am at Holy Trinity Yarram

This year we are creating stronger links with our community and the Yarram Community Garden. The Harvest Festival will include a warm welcome to members of the community, a blessing of the fruits of the earth, produce swap table and a community barbecue in the hall and grounds.  

Would you like to help decorate the church, offer hospitality or organise the produce swap table? Please add your name to the list in the foyer. Decorating of the church will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 16^th

Christ is Risen He is Risen Indeed – Happy Easter!

Easter Eggs are a real treat that we have reserved for the season of Easter. Traditionally people fasted from rich foods including eggs and dairy so by the time Easter arrived there were a great many eggs that had been collected. Rather than chocolate eggs these real eggs were decorated with dyes. Hunting for these coloured eggs has echoes of Mary Magdalene in the garden, looking for Jesus. ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.’ (John 20:13)

Modern Easter Eggs made from chocolate are a good symbol of the celebratory nature of Easter Morning. Chocolate is a festive food and well suited to feasting after the fasting of Lent. Chocolate Easter Eggs (the hollow ones) remind us of the empty tomb. When we break them open there is an empty space like that of the resurrection. ‘He is not here, for he has been raised.’ (Matthew 28:5)

The Traditional dish for Easter Sunday lunch is roast lamb into which spears of rosemary have been added. Rosemary is a reminder of the bitter herbs mentioned in the book of Exodus – a symbol of the Passover. Lamb is chosen because it reminds us of Jesus – the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

FELLOWSHIP AT St John’s

To facilitate fellowship with Jo and Ken there will be a shorter service on Sunday 3rd April. Our next service will be Sunday 17^th April when everyone is invited to join in the Harvest Festival at Holy Trinity Yarram followed by a community barbeque in the grounds from about 12noon.

There will be a 10.30am service of Holy Communion, guest preacher The Reverend Graham Knott, Archdeacon Southern Region followed by the AGM. followed by a  Bring and Share Lunch. Please add your name to the list if you plan to stay for lunch and give some idea of what you plan to bring.

Please note there will be NO 9.00 am SERVICE Sunday 8^th November.
Followed by The Congregational Meeting of Holy Trinity (a short meeting)

A CELEBRATION of the COMPLETION OF WORKS at St JOHN’S PORT ALBERT

ALL SAINTS Sunday 1st November

As part of 9.00am and 10.30am services we will again be reading the names of the dear departed and lighting candles in their memory. If you would like to include a name of a loved one please speak to Reverend Jo.

St Mary’s Catholic Parish as they celebrate 100 years since the laying of the memorial stone at the church in Yarram on Sunday 1^st November.

 

 

 

 

 

ONLY 2 MONTHS UNTIL CHRISTMAS – there are a number of gift catalogues and card catalogues on the welcome table from Anglicare, Tear, Anglican Overseas Aid and Christian Blind Mission.
ANGLICARE have launched their Christmas Toy Appeal. They are seeking donations of toys new and unwrapped. Gift ideas for your consideration include: Lego blocks, arts and crafts materials, board games, baby blankets, educational DVDs, bikes, books, clothing, sports equipment, jewellery, gift vouchers, musical instruments and diaries. Our Christmas Tree will be available to receive your donations from November 29^th first Sunday in Advent. Food items for the season can be left in the Plus One Box – ham, canned vegetables, canned fruit, jellies, jams, coffee, tea, rice, pasta, biscuits, beans, legumes, puddings, ring pull canned food, instant meals, tinned salmon or fish.

BLESSING OF ANIMALS

All welcome to a Community BBQ in the grounds following the service
We welcome all animals; great and small to our simple service of blessing in honour of St Francis of Assisi.
Cats and chooks in cages, dogs on leads and other small animals are invited to be blessed in the church.
(Yes snails and worms will be blessed.)
Larger animals including pigs, cows, horses and working dogs will be blessed in the church yard or truck.
(Meet Reverend Jo’s pet lizard.)

We hope to prepare two items for Nine Lessons and Carols and The Community Christmas Carols at the Regent Theatre.

COMMUNITY GARDEN WORKING BEE – a working bee to install the garden beds will be held at Holy Trinity Yarram Next Tuesday 6^th October beginning at 4.00pm. This working bee is open to interested members of the public. (Members of the parish are welcome) BYO tools especially barrows and spades to fill beds with soil.

Next and final tutorial Christian Meditation – going deeper begins 20^th September following 10.30am service at St John’s Port Albert and repeated 27^th September at Holy Trinity Yarram

Christian Meditation

Would you like to explore Christian Meditation? Reverend Jo is thinking of offering a meditation group on Wednesday afternoon or evening. Please talk to Rev. Jo if you are interested. Just a few people could form a group, the time to be mutually arranged.
