This year Holy Trinity, Yarram is trying something a bit different to get ready for Christmas. On Sunday 3rd December at our 10.30am service you are invited to join us as we get together to prepare for the season by making and doing things together. You might like to help decorate our Advent Wreath, or make a decoration for the Anglicare Giving Tree or learn a Song for the Season or make a Gratitude Tree, or maybe you would like to make a Take-home Advent Wreath. These things will form the first part of our gathering and then we will join together for a simple time of worship. Later there will be the opportunity for morning tea together.
We hope that this event ‘Advent for All’ will be a way for everyone, the young and the young at heart to enjoy a time of creativity, worship and fellowship.

This week’s challenge is: share a favourite vegetarian recipe with friends using produce from the garden - zero food miles.

Frequently Asked Questions – pews and chairs at Holy Trinity Yarram
Why are we replacing some pews with chairs with arms?
There are a number of reasons but chiefly it is because a request was made to Parish Council for chairs with arms so that those needing extra support when seated and assistance when rising will be able to attend church comfortably.
We believe placement of chairs in the centre bank of pews will draw the congregation together and create a stronger sense of togetherness in worship.
Will there be enough seats for large funerals?
We plan to replace only two centre pews with chairs. Each pew can seat six people comfortably. In the same space we can fit five chairs. This will mean the loss of only two seats.
Will there be somewhere to put books and other personal items?
We plan to alternate a row of pews with a row of chairs so that those who choose to sit in chairs will be able to use the pew in front to put books and other personal items. Those seated in pews behind the row of chairs may find these items can be placed on the seat beside them.
What about the loss of tradition?
The use of pews is a strong tradition in rural Anglican churches. This is not the case everywhere. Many cathedrals use chairs and have always done so. As we are only replacing some pews we hope this will not destroy the traditional look of the church.
What happens to these pews?
The parish council has decided not to sell any pews. At present one pew sits quite comfortably in the foyer. When the second is moved we plan to use it in the hall. As yet there are no firm plans about its location but be assured no pews will be lost.
How many chairs will there be?
Two rows of five; ten chairs in all.

From Rev Jo
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, 'Lord, teach us to pray.' (Luke 11:1)
The prayer that Jesus taught us is a blue print for our life as Christians.
Our Father in heaven hallowed by your name - In hallowing God’s name we honour God our creator and give God the highest priority in our lives. If we are uncertain about where to direct our energy then the Lord’s Prayer can be our guide.
Your will be done our earth as it is in heaven - Our work is for the kingdom of God and its coming; let God’s will be done on earth. Let God’s righteousness and peace be our highest priority.
Give us today our daily bread - We ought to be truly thankful for the simple things; our daily bread, the air the sky the sea and for all the blessings of the earth.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us - As Christians let forgiveness be our emblem. The world is a better place when we don’t hold onto hurts and when we allow forgiveness to flow freely.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil - When we put God first and honour him our perspective changes. God is faithful, we can rely on him even through the trials and evil that beset us.
Amen.

A Message about Peace from Rev. Jo
The Prime Minister of Great Britain Neville Chamberlain (1869 -1940) is remembered for the words ‘peace for our time’. He was speaking about one aspect of peace, namely the absence of war. But, peace has a richer and more profound meaning. The Book of Common Prayer includes in its pages the following words ‘Give peace in our time O Lord because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God.’ As part of Evening Prayer these words form part of a prayer that acknowledges that it is God alone who grants peace, mercy, salvation, righteousness and beauty to the human heart. Peace is an important word for us as Christians, it is what our Lord has bequeathed to us; ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.’ (John 14:27) Peace is something we all seek. Peace for the world, for our nation, in our hearts, for those we love. God’s peace grows within us if we open our hearts and welcome God to dwell there in. Let us plant a tree of peace in our hearts, a tree that will grow and bear fruit; fruit we can share with our world, our nation, and our brothers and sisters of every race and nation.

Shalom, my friends, Shalom, my friends,
Shalom, Shalom.
May peace be with you, may peace be with you,
Shalom, Shalom.

Christ is Risen He is Risen Indeed – Happy Easter!

Easter Eggs are a real treat that we have reserved for the season of Easter. Traditionally people fasted from rich foods including eggs and dairy so by the time Easter arrived there were a great many eggs that had been collected. Rather than chocolate eggs these real eggs were decorated with dyes. Hunting for these coloured eggs has echoes of Mary Magdalene in the garden, looking for Jesus. ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.’ (John 20:13)

Modern Easter Eggs made from chocolate are a good symbol of the celebratory nature of Easter Morning. Chocolate is a festive food and well suited to feasting after the fasting of Lent. Chocolate Easter Eggs (the hollow ones) remind us of the empty tomb. When we break them open there is an empty space like that of the resurrection. ‘He is not here, for he has been raised.’ (Matthew 28:5)

The Traditional dish for Easter Sunday lunch is roast lamb into which spears of rosemary have been added. Rosemary is a reminder of the bitter herbs mentioned in the book of Exodus – a symbol of the Passover. Lamb is chosen because it reminds us of Jesus – the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
