PEW SHEET 10th APRIL

HARVEST FESTIVAL NEXT SUNDAY
17th April 10.30am at Holy Trinity Yarram

This year’s theme Care For Our Common Home comes from Pope Francis’ circular on Ecology and Climate. The Anglican Communion Environmental Network of which the Australian Anglican Church is a representative has also written on this topic.

This year we are creating stronger links with our community and the Yarram Community Garden. The Harvest Festival will include a warm welcome to members of the community, a blessing of the fruits of the earth, produce swap table and a community barbecue in the hall and grounds.

Would you like to help decorate the church, offer hospitality or organise the produce swap table? Please add your name to the list in the foyer. Decorating of the church will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 16th

Christ Church Tarraville turns 160 this year.
We are planning a celebration on The Feast of Christ the King Sunday 20th November with an afternoon service to which Bishop Kay will be our guest. In the meantime Diocesan Archivist Tim Gibson will lead a tutorial to assist us with our preparations Wednesday 2 May 3.00pm. Please indicate your interest by speaking to Rev Jo.

Pastoral Visit of Bishop Kay Goldsworthy 8th May 10.30am Holy Trinity; please pray for the candidates and their sponsors as they prepare for reception into the Anglican Church
Parish Council will meet one week later than usual this month on Wednesday 27th April 4.00pm at the Rectory.

News from Parish Council – the gradual sale of pews at Holy Trinity is being discussed with a view to replacing with chairs. If you have any questions or comments to add to the discussion please talk to a parish councillor.

TARRA FESTIVAL – We again opened our hall for parade participants to meet, get ready, have a bit of breakfast or use the toilets. The Tarra Festival Committee really appreciates our community involvement and support. They are planning a ‘Thank You Barbeque Lunch’ for the Yarram Community at Holy Trinity Hall on Sunday 24th April 12.00 noon – 2.00pm to which we are all invited.

Message about the Ten Commandments – Reverend Jo

The notion of trying to be a “good person” conjures up all sorts associations: of piety, solemnity, bloodlessness and self-denial. If we let others know that we are on fitness program or a diet to improve our health we can expect to attract encouragement and respect. Declare that we are working on our character and many will think this rather odd. It’s an indication of just how far out of favour the project of being good has fallen that “wicked” has become a word used in praise.

During Lent our project is the improvement of our character; a kind of spiritual make-over. The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) are important helps to us in our project of self-examination and improvement of character.

We constantly need reminders to be sympathetic, just, kind, honest, respectful, grateful and loving. The Commandments were given by God in the context of love and commitment between God and his people. They were given as a guide to living in freedom from slavery and freedom to love God and neighbour.
