Lenten Studies – This year’s study will be Up from the Waters Reflections for Lent Year A by Fr Tony Chiera and Dr Jason McFarland $10.00 for study booklets from your Bible Study Leader or purchase a book to study privately.

Please order you book and indicate your preferred group for study using the forms at church.

Studying the Bible with others is a great way to develop our faith and our fellowship. In 2017 Bible Study groups will be continuing across the parish –

·         The Port Albert Group Monday 20th February 4.00pm at St John's led by Rev Jo
  • The Rectory Group Wednesday 7.30pm at The Rectory, Yarram led by Rev. Jo (for Lenten Studies only)

HELPING OUT at HOLY TRINITY
Serving God with Glad Hearts – There a number of tasks that get done week by week by our guilds including: reading the Scriptures, assisting with the power point presentation, providing hospitality after worship, welcoming, flowers and cleaning

YOU ARE INVITIED TO CELEBRATE SHROVE TUESDAY at the Rectory 6.00pm Tuesday 9th February.

Includes a meal of savoury and sweet pancakes, burning of palm crosses and preparation of incense nails for our Pascal Candle

Ash Wednesday 10th February will be marked by a simple service at Holy Trinity 10.30am or 6.30pm. These two services will include Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes.

Lenten Studies this year commence Wednesday 17th February.

Walking Humbly with God by Dr Timothy Gaden $10.00
Every Lent is an opportunity to examine anew our walk with God. We are invited each year in this season to walk with the Israelites on their journey from slavery to freedom, and to walk with Jesus in the last week of his earthly life. As we do this, Jesus walks with us, pointing out the road ahead and holding us when we stumble.In this down to earth series of Lenten studies, each week focuses on a different aspect of this humble walk with God. Copies are available from Rev Jo.
Morning Prayer During Lent – You are welcome to join Rev Jo as she says Morning Prayer 9.00am Holy Trinity daily during Lent.

Parish Council meets 10th February 4.00pm Ash Wednesday at the Rectory; councillors may wish to stay on for the Ash Wednesday service at 6.30pm. If you have any matters you would like to bring to the councils attention you could write a letter or have a chat to our councillors.

175th ANNIVERSARY OF PORT ALBERT commences Friday 12th February with an official opening as part of Warren Curry’s exhibition 6.00pm at the small hall in Victoria St. Port Albert.

Fun, Romance and the opportunity for everyone present to enjoy St Valentine’s Day. Five couples  will officially reaffirm their vows but we can all be part of it. Afternoon tea to follow in the church yard.

Blessing of the Fleet Sunday 21st February 11.00am at the Slip Jetty Port Albert. Including a sail past by the Wooden Boat Club. There will also be a vintage car show at Rutter Park. Lots of fun at the port!

Christmas is Coming

Traditional Nine Lessons and Carols Sunday 6th Dec - Holy Trinity Yarram 7.30pm followed by some Christmas Cheer.

YARRAM CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL Take a drive or a walk after the sun goes down and enjoy the fabulous Christmas lights on the cypress tree at Holy Trinity and the Nativity Scene at the Rectory. Thank you to the fellas who climbed ladders to put these things in place.

Go for a walk around the shops in Yarram and view all the decorated Christmas Trees. This year the decorated trees will be around the theme of the Brightest Christmas. Each will also bear a special bauble with a letter; collect all the letters, discover the secret Christmas word, visit Claudio’s Coffee Shop or The Coffee Palace to receive your prize.

YARRAM’S OWN CHRISTMAS TREE TRAIL
Before you know it a forest of trees will be popping up in all sorts of unexpected places thanks to the work of the Yarram Men’s Shed, Wellington Shire, Bunnings Sale and students from local schools. Yeah team!!!



OUR NATIVITY EXHIBITION IS GROWING

Holy Trinity Hall 12th - 16th December 10am - 3pm
The exhibition will commence on Saturday 12th and run until Wednesday 16th. Please bring your Nativity Scenes to the hall or drop into the Rectory from December 9th.
Our Exhibition will include:
  • An Advent Selfie Spot where families can dress up as characters from the first Christmas, stand in our purpose built backdrop and take a photo for their use, perhaps for a Christmas card, calendar or email.
  • A Christmas gift shop with items for sale from Koorong Christian Bookshop; our selection will include: books, DVDs, CDs, Nativity figurines and Christmas decorations all with a Christian message.

CELEBRATE PENTECOST

As part of worship today there will be opportunities for additional participation.
You are invited to choose from the following groups:
·        Music – prepare a song for the congregation to sing
·        Prayer – prepare the prayers of the people
·        Bible Reading – prepare the Pentecost reading and offer some simple responses
·        Art – prepare a collage altar frontal to enhance our worship
This year we seek to be changed as we listen to God in prayer
 
The Anam Cara Community is a ministry of the Anglican Diocese of Gippsland offered by the Diocese to the whole church that offers a contemplative community of prayer and support by providing resources for individuals, parishes and other groups to support the inner journey into God. Each month the Anam Cara Community of Gippsland provide a Quiet Day. Next month this Quiet Day will take place in Yarram at the beautiful Greenmount Retreat House.
PRAYING WITH ICONS Saturday 20th June 9.30am – 3.30pm at Greenmount Retreat House, Greenmount Rd Yarram.
 
NEWS FROM PARISH COUNCIL
Congregational Meetings coming up -        
Holy Trinity Yarram Sunday 14th June following 9.00am service
St John’s Port Albert Sunday 21st June following 10.30am service
These meetings are an opportunity for each congregation to hear in greater detail the business of Parish Council and to offer feedback and recommendations to council.
Please plan to be with us.
Strategic Plan – to be changed as we listen to God in prayer
Council has decided to offer Prayer Tutorials once a month following services at both Holy Trinity and St John’s during Ordinary Season.
New Vacuum Cleaner for Holy Trinity – we will purchase a new vacuum cleaner with the help of The Umbrella Club. Council thanks the members of the Umbrella Club for their generous gift to the church.
Blessing of the Fleet 2016 – to be held on Sunday 21st February as part of the 175 anniversary celebrations of the founding of Port Albert
Anniversary of the death of Bishop John

It is the request of the 37th Synod that we mark the anniversary of the passing of Bishop John McIntyre on Sunday 7th June. Prayers will be offered and a retiring offering will be made for the John McIntyre Centre at the Abbey Raymond Island and The Diocesan Aboriginal Ministry Fund.

Rest eternal grant unto him O Lord,

and let light perpetual shine upon him.
